Trailing suction hopper dredger

Central Felixstowe Coastal Protection Scheme

Awarded in July 2011, the Central Felixstowe Coast Protection Scheme involved the construction of 18 rock groynes, a rock revetment, concrete works to the promenade and a beach recharge.

Boskalis Westminster undertook the majority of the works as a strategic sub-contractor, providing the armour rock, construction of the groynes and completing the beach recharge. Trailing suction hopper dredgers Sospan Dau and Crestway combined to provide 80,000m³ of new beach material.

As the works were executed close to residential properties, a public liaison officer was appointed to advise and inform residents about planned activities. The night time plant operation was kept to a minimum and, in conjunction with an appropriate level of lighting, resulted in completion with no significant incidents or complaints.
